STONEWORK

The most recent work to the church is to make the building watertight, with the roof tiles being lifted off, felting and battening being replaced.

Additionally any stonework in need of replacing above the the roofline is being dealt with. Roof insulation is being installed across the whole building to ensure increased thermal efficiency. Internally the Georgian plasterwork that had been damaged by water ingress has been repaired, conserved and restored (but not repainted) and the apse at the west end of the building has been restored, repainted and re-gilded.

As part of this work a walkway is being installed in the Nave roof space, and hand rails in the side aisles walkways.

We hope to be able to offer limited tours up into the roof. Watch this space for more info!

The Future

Whilst we have been able to a lot of work on the building recently, there is still a long way to go to ensure the building remains for us 200 years from now.

The plasterwork in the side aisles may have been repaired, but it and the whole church still needs redecorating. We also need to replace carpets, and lighting, ensure that the building is heated adequately, and ultimately is a space for multi-purpose community use which is used throughout the week – not just on Sundays and high days and holidays. In doing this we recognise the need to celebrate and honour the past and its heritage, whilst embracing and enabling the future.

We'd love to invite you to contribute towards the future of this amazing building to see it used for centuries into the future
