What Goes to Make A Wedding Service ?

Like a good jigsaw, building the full picture of a wedding involves a number of different aspects and shades - and then fitting them together to make the picture come to life. With a wedding, there is a service which everything fits around and you choose hymns and readings for the service as well as adding other elements into the picture. The aim of this page is to help you to work out what you need and want to have in your service.......

  • The Service ....

Click to read the text of the Wedding Service - this will help you to understand what happens and when !

  • The Music and Hymns ....

Click to see a list of music and hymns for your wedding. Some people have two and some have three hymns - it depends on how many people are coming and the style of the service. There are also some suggestions about the music for other parts of the service.

  • The Readings ....

The service includes a reading from the Bible and you can click here to see a list of suggested Bible readings for your wedding. If you want to have an additional reading, such as a poem or a reading from another source, it is best to check it out with the minister in advance.

  • Other questions you may need to think about ....

  • Do we want to have one or two rings?
  • Do we want to have the bells?
  • Who is going to do the flowers?
  • Who is going to prepare and print the service sheet ?
  • Will we want to arrange someone to play or sing during the signing of the registers?
  • Will we use the Church Choir or arrange our own (one or other is a necessary part of the service)?
