ST MARY’S SCHOOL, ROKON, SUDAN
Since October 2000 we have supported St Mary’s School by sending regular donations via the Sudan Committee at Salisbury. Money has been raised at Saturday coffee mornings and donations from our congregation.
The idea of opening the school was developed by Bishop Francis Loyo in early 1999 to educate the children in the war torn areas, where they have no chance of learning to read and write. There were 250 orphans at the school in 2000, and that number has now increased. The success of the school is evident in the fact that the school children now take academic tests following a Ugandan curriculum. Surprisingly, the children are learning in English. Please continue to pray for peace, and for these children to be able to live normal lives.

Sudan Prayers – May 2010
May 2010
Peace and the CPA There are now just eight months to the completion of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in 2005. Please pray that it's full implementation is supported by it's original creators and brings a lasting peace to all parts of Sudan.
Peaceful Elections Give thanks for peaceful elections in Sudan. This momentous event passed last month without major incident or loss of life. Please pray that life in Sudan may increasingly grow towards a future of peace and stability. Pray also for God's wisdom for the new leaders of Sudan as they begin to take up the responsibilities of the country.
Canon Ezra Moved Thank God for the successful exhumation and reburial of the late Canon Ezra Baya Lawiri (whose statue was unveiled at Salisbury Cathedral in July 2008. He was the first Pastor In charge of the then Mundri Parish Church, now the Diocese of Mundri.
Confirmations and Appointments Some bishops in Sudan are travelling this month confirming candidates and appointing new priests or MU workers. Please pray for the safety of bishops as they travel and for the candidates that will be confirmed by them in faith. Pray also for those newly appointed to serve their brothers and sisters in various parishes throughout Sudan.
Schools Concern The schools in the Juba area of South Sudan are at risk from a Government Of Southern Sudan decision to take ECS teachers, and some Head Teachers, away from the ECS schools and deploy them in government schools. In particular please pray for Gasim Philip the new headmaster of Juba Diocese Model Secondary School.
Bentiu A new young bishop has been appointed to minister to the area of Bentiu in Malakal diocese. Rt Rev John Gattek Wallem ministers to a difficult area on the disputed North South border. Please pray for his many needs and his ministry with the people of this area, whose own needs are great too.
