ST MARY’S SCHOOL, ROKON, SUDAN

LATEST NEWS FROM SUDAN - Sept 2010

There is now less than 6 months to the completion of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in 2005. Please pray that its full implementation is supported by its original creators and brings a lasting peace to all parts of Sudan.

Also there is to be a Referendum during 2011 which will have a deep impact on all Sudan and may lead to the establishment of a separate Southern Sudan in which the Rokon Diocese, with which BFPC has particular links, is situated. Please pray for appropriate engagement by the International Community to prevent Sudan from returning to civil war.

Pray for Bishop Francis in Rokon Diocese and his wife Mama Linda.

Pray for St Mary's School, Rokon which BFPC continues to support financially.

St Mary's School Kera Church - December 2008

Since October 2000 we have supported St Mary’s School by sending regular donations via the Sudan Committee at Salisbury. Money has been raised at Saturday coffee mornings and donations from our congregation. The idea of opening the school was developed by Bishop Francis Loyo in early 1999 to educate the children in the war torn areas, where they have no chance of learning to read and write. There were 250 orphans at the school in 2000, and that number has now increased. The success of the school is evident in the fact that the school children now take academic tests following a Ugandan curriculum. Surprisingly, the children are learning in English. Please continue to pray for peace, and for these children to be able to live normal lives.
