An ambitious plan to extend the church was undertaken in 1895 when the domed apse,
which was built flush against the arch at the east end of the church, was moved 25 yards back
on rollers and a choir and chancel built to "fill in the gap.
Fortunately, a local photographer was organised to record the work and his series of dated
photographs is reproduced below.
