The Parish Church in Blandford Forum has announced radical plans to provide free electricity to homes in the centre of the Town by erecting a power generating windmill on the church roof instead of the present cupola.
Plans are expected to be presented to local planning officials before noon on Friday 1st April for the erection of a wind turbine to replace the existing cupola on the tower roof of the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul. In a move of great generosity, all of the electricity produced by the turbine is to be offered free to homes surrounding the church. In order to aid the amount of electricity generated, a conduit will bring additional wind energy direct from the pulpit.
Plans for the turbine have not yet been discussed with interested parties such as English Heritage although it is hoped that there will be support from heritage groups due to plans to construct the turbine from traditional materials such as English oak. The project has been under consideration for some time although plans for a nuclear powered generation unit in the crypt were rejected due to the confusion the glow would create inside the church building.
