ST MARY’S SCHOOL, ROKON, SUDAN

St Mary's School

Since October 2000 we have supported St Mary’s School by sending regular donations via the Sudan Committee at Salisbury. Money has been raised at Saturday coffee mornings and donations from our congregation. The idea of opening the school was developed by Bishop Francis Loyo in early 1999 to educate the children in the war torn areas, where they have no chance of learning to read and write. There were 250 orphans at the school in 2000, and that number has now increased. The success of the school is evident in the fact that the school children now take academic tests following a Ugandan curriculum. Surprisingly, the children are learning in English. Please continue to pray for peace, and for these children to be able to live normal lives.

Sudan Prayers – December 2008

Christmas in Sudan Christians will celebrate in very different ways from us. Pray that they may have real cause to celebrate the coming of the Prince of Peace and that we will find concrete ways to join their celebration.

Partnership Conference

  • Please pray for the follow-up from this international meeting in November.

    Reconciliation Process

  • There is concern that next year’s elections may be postponed, with serious implications for the peace process. Pray for God’s over-ruling in this.

    Lords Resistance Army

  • Bishop Wilson Kamani of Ibba Diocese (SW Sudan) asks for prayer regarding the influx of refugees (some 300 households) from Congo following LRA atrocities there,.

    Rokon Diocese

  • Bishop Francis Loyo asks for prayer regarding attempts to rebuild primary and secondary schools which are hampered through lack of funding.

    Grace Secondary School, Nuba Mountains

  • Richard and Clare Budd from Dorchester are seeking to raise £40,000 to rebuild the only secondary school in the Nuba Mountains area where there are 150 primary schools –“probably the most educationally needy area on the planet”. See www.GraceSecondarySchool.com

    Bishop Gwynne Theological College, Juba

  • Trevor and Tina Stubbs are awaiting visas to enable them to spend time there teaching and supporting.
