BFPC gives £800 to "Save Ken" Campaign

Ken and Friend!

Blandford Forum Parish Church (BFPC) gave over £800 to the work of Ken Reynolds and Blandford Youth Trust at the morning services on Sunday 25th October.

BFPC has had a mission partnership with Blandford Youth Trust (BYT) over many years and supports the ongoing work of Ken Reynolds as the Schools Support Worker at the Blandford School with direct giving from PCC funds as well as in prayer and other forms of support. Ken Reynolds spoke of his work at both morning services on 25th October and gave insights as to the opportunities to help young people across the 11 to 18 year age range that the school works with.

During the last academic year (2008-2009), Ken worked with 134 young people out of the 1200 at the school, in diverse issues from family issues to alcohol and drugs, and from eating disorders to school-related issues. The current financial climate means that much of BYT's funding from community bodies is drying up, leading to the possibility that the work at the school will not be able to continue for future years. In his sermon, the passion of his concern for the young people he works with was evident for all to see and the congregation responded with a magnificent collection.

The Rector of Blandford Forum, Rev Tim Storey, said "The work of BYT and Ken Reynolds is so valuable to the town of Blandford and something which cannot be allowed to stop because of a lack of finance. The response of the congregation was magnificent but we are aware that there is still much to be done to ensure the safety of the project."
