Welcome!

The Cupola Project

Blandford Forum Parish Church

A church has stood on this spot for centuries as a testimony to the Glory and Love of God, and as an icon for the town of Blandford Forum. It has provided a place where individuals and families have worshipped together, welcomed new generations and seen life unfold together at the heart of the Town and the Community. The previous Church on the site was lost to the Great Fire of July 1731 and was replaced by the magnificence of the current building, courtesy of the talents and work of the Bastard brothers. The intervening 280 years have seen change after change to the building, for both aesthetic and practical reasons, maintaining and reinforcing its primary purpose as a place of worship for the community of the day. Responsibility for the next chapter in the life of this building now falls to the Church of today and it is our desire to continue with this desire to see the Church evolve and grow with this Vision. Thank you for being interested in supporting this project. It is our belief that this vision will be fulfilled through the combined efforts and talents of many people.

Rev Tim Storey
(Rector, Blandford Forum Parish Church)

The Vision

The Cupola Project was launched in June 2011 with the Vision Statement "To revive the building of St Peter and St Paul’s, Blandford Forum in such a way as to reflect the aims of its builders and the needs of the 21st century community it seeks to serve, all to the Glory of God."

The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Blandford Forum is a Grade 1 Listed Building and a notable example of Georgian architecture in the classical style - often stated as the best example of a Georgian church outside London. The church building is a sacred space which has, in its present form, been used for worship, prayers and encounters with Jesus Christ since it replaced the Church formerly on the site which was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1731. Sadly, a lack of attention in recent generations has resulted in an accelerating decay to its fabric, both internally and externally, leading to the need for a major restoration and regeneration project.
