2009 Parish Weekend @ The Blandford School
"Going Deeper"
27th to 29th March 2009

A fantastic weekend in ... Blandford (it can happen!)

The Blandford School

BFPC has had a couple of Weekends Away in Somerset (one near Bridgwater and one on the outskirts of Bath) and we planned to hold another one in 2009 - possibly back at Monkton Combe ... but all our plans fell apart last summer when we found out they could not accommodate us. After exploring all the options (which weren't that many!), we decided that we would remain at home for the weekend and hold it at the exotic location of ...

The Blandford School ... ?

We are going to be spending the weekend in the luxurious surroundings of The Blandford School. We are going to be meeting in the Blandford Building and using rooms around it for the children and young people’s work ... we are going to be catered for at lunchtime and in the evenings ... and we are going to enjoy worship and first-class teaching for the weekend ... it will be great!

Because we cannot go away as a Church, it may mean that people will be tempted to “dip” in and out of the weekend. We hope that the plans we have for the weekend mean that people will want to be there for the whole time and will enjoy the opportunity to be together - even if it is in Blandford!

Our Speaker ... Martin Cavender

... is a lawyer by profession, and served for 21 years as a Partner in a firm of solicitors in the west country, specialising in ecclesiastical law. Half way through that time, he and his wife Cesca came to a living faith in Jesus Christ. They were called out into full time work in evangelism, with the Archbishops' “Springboard” initiative, working mostly in this country and overseas, especially in Africa. Martin now directs “ReSource”, a work of renewal for mission in the power of the Holy Spirit. ReSource works as a team to enable people, churches and communities to draw upon the refreshing, revitalising power of the Holy Spirit and has a particular calling to serve the little, the local and the ordinary. Martin is a deeply spiritual man with a great gift of encouragement, passionate about the gospel and committed to working alongside others of all ages and backgrounds. He is ably supported by Cesca, who brings her own gifts and sense of vocation to this work. They have three children and a growing number of grandchildren.

What about Food ... ?

In order to make this a “weekend”, we have arranged with the Blandford School caterers to provide an evening meal on the Friday, lunch and evening meals on Saturday – and even a roast dinner on Sunday! The aim is that whilst people will sleep and breakfast at home, we will spend the rest of the weekend together, enjoying each other’s company, making new friends and, just like our Mission Statement says “Discovering and Nurturing Relationships in Jesus Christ” ...

Who Is It For?

The aim of the weekend is to build up the community that is the Church by spending more time than we are able to at services and by worshipping together, learning together and simply being together. Some people are understandably nervous about coming on a weekend like this - they are worried that they won’t know anyone, or will find it hard work or they will be asked to do something which they find difficult. If this is you, please don't worry – ask someone who was there last time and they will tell you it will be OK! If you have been on a BFPC Weekend before, then you probably won't need much persuasion to come come again - and if you haven't been on one ... I hope you will want to experience this for yourself in 2009! If you want to know anything more about the weekend, ask one of the Staff Team and we will help to put you in the picture.

How much will it cost??!!

Holding the weekend in Blandford obviously means that the costs are lower and we are grateful to The Blandford School for giving us preferential rates for the hire of the building. The costs include all lunch and evening meals, worship, children’s work and our speaker ...

The all-inclusive cost for the weekend is ...
£ 31 for adults
£ 25 for 12 - 16 years
£ 17 for 4 - 11 years
Free for Under 4's

It is important to note that we want everyone to come who wants to come. If the cost is likely to present a problem for you, please do not be worried but have a word with Tim or one of the Staff and we will be able to help. There are funds are available for this.

And What Will Happen?

The programme might look something like this...

Friday ...
Tea together, followed by a time of worship and a "Get to Know You" session: the kids go off and meet their leaders and big kids meet Martin and Cesca.

Saturday ...
A morning of teaching for everyone, followed by lunch, followed by stuff (watch this space!). After tea ... a discussion (for those who would like to) and an evening event of some kind!

Sunday ...
A morning of worship and teaching, finishing with a roast dinner together!

The Element of Surprise!!

A year ago, our thoughts for the 2009 Parish Weekend looked very different to the plans described on this sheet – God is a God of surprises and there may be more between now and March! Please sign up for the weekend and join with us in looking forward to a great few days in the life of our Church!

So What Do I Do Now ... ?

Please fill in an application form and return it to the Office as soon as possible, so that we know who is coming !
